The Black Casket

Now: Delivered — your casket is finished and in your hands · It is done. The casket is finished, the lid closes the way it should, and it has been handed over. Thank you for trusting us with something this personal — the cats, the scorpion, the tree and her initials are all in there, cut into the maple where only she will find them.
The Poetry Box

Now: Delivered — your poetry box is finished and handed over · Finished and delivered. The lid sits the way it should, the name is in the cherry, and the box is closed on its first poem.
The Dowel Tree

Now: Making your last changes before delivery · Your tree is built, finished and standing. We are working through the last edits you asked for, and then it is boxed and on its way to you for the event.
The Anchor

Now: The anchor is cut — now carving the shape · The blank is cut out and the anchor is a real object on the bench. Right now the shape is being carved: the shank, crown and flukes taken down to their profiles and the ring opened out. This is the slowest stage of the piece and the one that decides how it will feel in the hand.
The Shepherd Cane
Amman, Jordan
Now: Choosing your walnut · The design is settled and you have chosen walnut — the darkest and the richest of the four, and the one the carved handle suits best. Right now we are choosing the actual board: walnut for a cane has to be straight-grained and sound through its whole length, because the shaft is slender and it will be leaned on. The handle comes out of a flat blank of the same wood so the colour runs through.
